Black Metal Mercantile Opens in Old Town Manassas
After seven years (and counting) of running Shining Sol, a candle store in Historic Old Town Manassas, Deron Blevins has gotten to know many different customers and their varied interests. He toyed with the idea of opening a vintage general store with a modern twist— one that would fill in retail gaps customers seek. So when friends and fellow business owners closed their shop on Center Street, Deron jumped at the chance and in mid-April opened Black Metal Mercantile, which has been holding true to its slogan of being “purveyors of the unique and distinct” ever since. “There’s literally something for everyone here,” Deron says, and he isn’t kidding. If you’re looking for something different to spice up any room in your home, the shop lives up to its name since it features a broad range of black metal wall décor as well as many other home accents and accessories. Looking for vinyl (music, not flooring)? There’s an impressive selection here. They even have snacks, but not your usual nosh fare—you’ll find unique brands to tempt you. Father’s Day is fast approaching, and this shop has an excellent “dude gift” selection—tools, grill seasonings, flasks, beer tap handles, posters, wood crafts, and much more. Deron also points out that he continues to carry items from the previous business (Knock on Wood), like Dixie Belle chalk paint, Surry Shop VA Peanuts, and local artisan creations, including Shining Sol’s amazing candles. In the short time the shop has been open, Deron consistently hears that customers love the store’s vibe and that they find it colorful and eccentric (in the best sense of the word).
